1.
PURPOSE
To
regulate the pressure and deliver an intermittent flow of oxygen from
oxygen cylinders. It is available for patients who would normally receive
the oxygen via a nasal cannula. It is intended to be used as an oxygen
saving device. Each time you inhale it delivers a metered dose of oxygen
to you through the cannula.
2.
EQUIPMENT:
A. Oxygen regulator, gauge, and intermittent flow meter.
3.
PROCEDURE TO USE
A.
Prior to each use, inspect the product for visible damage. DO
NOT use if damage is found.
B.
Check cylinder valve to be sure it is not bent or damaged. A damaged
valve could leak or fail, or it may not make a tight connection when
placed into use.
C.
Make sure the regulator and cylinder valve are free of oil, grease and
other contaminants.
D.
Be sure the regulator is in the "OFF" position.
E.
Attach the regulator to the oxygen cylinder post valve and align the
index pins with the mating holes.
F.
Hand tighten the T-Handle.
G.
Position the product so the cylinder valve opening is pointing away
from the user and other persons.
H.
Slowly (S-L-O-W-L-Y) open the cylinder valve COUNTERCLOCKWISE,
until the contents gauge moves to full.
I.
Turn the dial until the Indicating Pointer is pointing to the liters
per minute as prescribed by your physician.
4.
PROCEDURE TO DISCONTINUE USE
A.
Close cylinder valve by attaching the wrench and turning clockwise until
the valve is completely closed.
B.
Watch the contents gauge -- the needle should drop through the red area
until it reaches ZERO.
C.
Turn the dial until the Indicating Pointer is pointing to "OFF".
D.
If you are running low on full portable cylinders, REMEMBER
to call early for refills to allow time for deliveries.
5.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Please note the 2LPM CONTINUOUS setting
on the flow meter dial of the conserving device. If the conserving device
is not working properly, set the flow to this setting. The oxygen will
then flow continuously and you should plan on returning home before the
cylinder runs out of oxygen. The cylinder WILL NOT last
as long as it normally would when using the conserving device.
6.
USAGE NOTICE
In
order to trigger the flow of oxygen, the regulator must be able to sense
when you are inhaling. Therefore it is only effective when you are breathing
through your nose.
