1. PURPOSE
Small oxygen cylinders are made available for patients
who need portability.
2. EQUIPMENT:
A. Oxygen cylinder.
B. Pressure regulator, contents gauge and flow meter.
C. Nasal cannula or mask.
D. Carrying Case or Bag.
3. PROCEDURE
A. Place the end of the wrench on the cylinder valve and
turn it slowly (S-L-O-W-L-Y) COUNTER-CLOCKWISE until
you see the needle on the pressure gauge move.
B. Turn the dial at the end of the regulator
clockwise until the indicator registers the proper liter flow.
C. Put on the cannula or mask and adjust for comfort.
D. When finished using the oxygen, remove the cannula
or mask, place the end of the wrench on the cylinder valve and turn
CLOCKWISE, watch the contents gauge drop to ZERO,
then turn the dial at the end of the regulator to OFF.
E. Make sure to check the gauge each time you use your
oxygen and reorder refills before it is empty, especially during bad
weather.
4. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:
A. If you hear a hissing noise or notice that your tank
is emptying too quickly, the tank may be leaking.
B. DO NOT smoke near cylinders.
C. DO NOT allow grease or oil to come
in contact with the cylinder, regulator or accessory parts.
D. DO NOT allow an open flame within
5 feet of the oxygen equipment.
E. DO NOT store cylinders in your vehicle
trunk.
F. If you store cylinders in your car, leave the window
cracked open to prevent oxygen accumulation.
G. DO NOT place the unit near radiators
or other sources of heat such as fireplaces and kerosene heaters.
